Which Celebrities Have Veneers?

8 min read
Celebrity on the red carpet

If you’ve ever wondered how so many stars flaunt perfectly-proportioned and naturally white teeth, porcelain veneers are the open secret behind many celebrity smiles. These thin prosthetics are bonded to the front of teeth to modify their appearance in any way desired, and in the hands of an experienced cosmetic dentist, the results are seamless and natural.

That’s not to say that all celebrities have dental veneers, but many have been open about their use of cosmetic dentistry to enhance their smiles or correct issues with their teeth that they’re not happy with. Others have been more tight-lipped, but before and after photos make the changes clear.

Below are some of the celebrities known or thought to have benefited from veneers and information about how this treatment can also help non-celebrities make the cosmetic changes they want. To discuss your own suitability for veneers or find out more, book a consultation with our Gold Coast dentists today.

Celebrity veneers

Celebrities have used veneers for decades to improve or augment their smiles, and as the technology has refined, veneers have become indistinguishable from natural teeth. Today, many actors, singers and sports figures of all ages choose veneers for instant camera-ready smiles. Here are some of them.

Victoria Beckham

Early photos of Victoria show that she used to have misaligned front teeth before finding fame with the Spice Girls. Her straighter smile may have been achieved with a combination of veneers and braces.

Kristen Bell

The Frozen actress and singer hasn’t discussed getting veneers publicly, but it’s believed she chose the treatment to cover up slight tooth wear and discolouration.

Justin Bieber

Photos of the singer as a teenager suggest he benefited from orthodontic treatment to straighten his bite and had veneers placed over his front teeth as an adult.

Emily Blunt

The British actress’ white smile is thought to be due to veneers helping to enhance their colour or cover up stains.

Millie Bobby Brown

The Stranger Things actress is thought to have had veneers placed following Invisalign® treatment to straighten her teeth without the need for braces.

George Clooney

The Hollywood actor seems to have had various sets of veneers over the years to enhance his smile and help build up teeth that may have been worn down by teeth grinding (bruxism).

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise’s iconic smile has likely had a helping hand from several cosmetic dentistry treatments throughout his movie career, including veneers, braces and teeth whitening.

Miley Cyrus

As a teen actress, Miley wore lingual braces to help straighten her teeth while filming the series Hannah Montana. This was followed by veneers to enhance their size, shape and colour as an adult.

Pete Davidson

The American comedian was open about getting veneers in 2018 to close a gap in his front teeth and improve their alignment and shade.

Robert Downey Jr.

Photos show that RDJ has had veneers since the early 2000s to fix a gap in his front teeth and make the teeth more even in size.

Hilary Duff

The actress and singer explained that she had veneers fitted after chipping her two front teeth on a microphone.

Morgan Freeman

The Hollywood star is thought to have enhanced his smile with veneers and teeth whitening after replacing a damaged tooth with a dental implant in 2008.

Selena Gomez

Teenage photos of Selena Gomez show misalignment in her front teeth that has since been corrected, likely with veneers.

Niall Horan

The One Direction singer had braces as a teenager to straighten his smile, followed by veneers as an adult to further align and extend his short front teeth.

Scarlett Johansson

The Hollywood megastar benefited from veneers to straighten her smile. She may also have had composite bonding and teeth whitening treatments.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina is believed to have had veneers fitted over her front four teeth to improve their alignment and appearance. She previously had braces as a teen to correct crowding in her back teeth.

Michael B. Jordan

The American actor hasn’t confirmed that he had veneers, but before-and-after photos show a noticeably whiter and straighter smile today.

Nicole Kidman

The Australian superstar has subtly enhanced her smile with veneers fitted over her upper teeth to correct minor misalignment.

John Legend

The Grammy-winning artist’s smile has changed dramatically over the years, with treatments such as veneers improving his teeth’s colour, sizes and proportions.

Dua Lipa

Childhood photos show that Dua Lipa has likely had several cosmetic dentistry treatments to correct misalignment, including orthodontics in her youth followed by crowns and veneers as an adult.

Meghan Markle

The Duchess of Sussex is believed to have had porcelain veneers fitted to close a gap between her front teeth that’s noticeable on teenage photos.

Conor McGregor

The Irish UFC champion has had several dental treatments to fix his damaged and discoloured teeth, including veneers and crowns.

Demi Moore

After her teeth dulled with natural age and wear, naturally white veneers helped Demi Moore regain a more youthful smile.

Gordon Ramsay

The celebrity chef is believed to have had veneers to achieve a whiter and more balanced smile.

Daniel Ricciardo

The Aussie Formula 1 driver had crowded and crooked teeth in his 20s before fixing them with tooth-coloured ceramic braces and veneers.

Emma Roberts

The actress and singer chose veneers to straighten her slightly crooked teeth and enhance their natural whiteness.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Once sporting a missing upper tooth that caused his other teeth to become misaligned, the football legend has straightened and restored his smile with the help of veneers, crowns and gum contouring.

Ben Simmons

The Australian NBA star once had discoloured and uneven teeth that seem to have been corrected with a combination of orthodontic treatment and porcelain veneers.

Gwen Stefani

The No Doubt singer wore braces as an adult to correct misalignment and seems to have followed the treatment with veneers to enhance the appearance and uniformity of her smile.

Emma Stone

Early photos of Emma Stone reveal some misalignment that has since been corrected with veneers, as well as brightening her teeth’s natural shade.

Taylor Swift

Taylor had dental work after chipping a tooth in 2013, but it’s believed that she more recently had veneers fitted to seamlessly enhance her smile.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin layers of tooth-coloured material that replace the front surfaces of teeth. The most common materials used are porcelain and composite resin.

  • Porcelain veneers are preferred by celebrities for their more natural appearance, as the material has similar reflective and translucent qualities to tooth enamel. Porcelain is also more hard-wearing than composite resin, and resistant to stains, though it can still be damaged by injury or biting into something too hard.

  • Composite veneers can appear a little duller than porcelain, and are less durable, but they can be a more affordable option for teeth that are less visible. They also generally involve less preparation of the tooth, and the treatment can often be completed in a single visit to the dental clinic.

The best veneers for you will depend on your aesthetic goals, risk factors, and your price range.

Why choose veneers?

Veneers aren’t the best choice for everyone, but they have some appealing benefits over other cosmetic dentistry treatments:

  • Instantly transform your smile in one or two visits, depending on the type of veneers
  • Address a wide variety of aesthetic concerns, from stains to minor damage and misalignment
  • Suitable for all types of discolouration, including types that can’t be treated with teeth whitening
  • Non-invasive treatment
  • Easy to maintain and long-lasting with good care

Can anyone get veneers?

Veneers aren’t just for the rich and famous! Many Australians from all walks of life choose veneers to enhance their smiles or correct aspects they’re not happy with, from stained and discoloured enamel to concerns over shape and size, chips and cracks, slight misalignment and gaps.

To be eligible for veneers, it’s important that you have good oral health and are free from problems such as tooth decay and gum disease that can cause veneers to fail. Some habits like smoking, nail biting and teeth grinding could also make you less ideal for veneers unless you’re prepared to make changes.

Veneers may also not be suitable if you have more severe misalignment or if there isn’t enough of the tooth’s structure remaining to support a veneer. Your dentist may recommend alternative treatments depending on your needs, such as crowns or Invisalign clear aligners.
